Appeal Court Upturns Tribunal Judgement Which Favoured APC, Declares PDP’s Kashamu Winner Of Senatorial ELection

Buruji Kashamu

The Court of Appeal has upheld the election victory of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator, Buruji Kashamu.
The Court, which sat in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, ruled on Monday December 7, 2015, that Kashamu truly won the Ogun East Senatorial District seat in the National Assembly.
Kashamu had headed to the Court after the Ogun State Elections Petitions Tribunal ruled in favour of his opponent in the 2015 general elections, Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress.
The Tribunal had nullified the election of Kashamu and ordered the conduct of fresh election in 109 wards to determine the actual winner of the seat, a decision which prompted Kashamu’s appeal.
Although, the Court of Appeal panel was disbanded over an alleged N150 million bribe claimed to have been given to the judges by Kashamu, the new panel constituted gave Kashamu the victory on Monday.
